INVITATION TO USER TEST PROPOSED NEW HIGHWAY WEB PAGES

Your email address is currently listed as one which receives news from Essex County Council on ‘Keep Me Posted’ Highways topics.

We’re working to improve some of our Highways web-pages. We have developed some new ones, but we’d like to explore whether they make sense to users.

As someone whom we believe has an interest in Essex highways, we would like to invite you to review our new pages, as we are keen to hear feedback from people on their helpfulness and usability. We will use your feedback to develop them further before we launch them for all the public to use.

You don’t need any special knowledge to help – all you need is internet access, plus about 10 minutes to visit the new pages and answer a few questions on them. We will not gather any personal data to identify you, other than to ask your age group, to help us understand the range of ages of people we are receiving feedback from.

Please note that the new test pages are not connected fully to the existing website, so it is possible that you may encounter ‘dead-end’ pages, or even error messages. If so, simply use the Back button of your browser to step back to a prior page.

Imagine that you want to go online to tell us about something to do with roads and pavements, or other related matters.

When visiting the new pages, please pick one of the following scenarios and imagine that is the task you are trying to do.
  • There is a pothole in my road
  • The traffic lights are not working
  • There is overgrown vegetation dropping sap on my car
  • I have noticed cars parked on a grass verge next to the road, damaging it
  • I am looking for information about my local buses
  • Why has a sign been put up in my street saying the road is going to be closed?
  • I am unsure what’s happening about a pothole I have previously reported
  • My drive is getting flooded from water coming off the road
  • There is a noisy, loose manhole cover / drain cover in the road
  • I noticed a large pothole on the road going into Lakeside Shopping Centre and/or I noticed a large pothole on the road next to Southend Pier
  • My streetlight is not working
  • I tripped over on the pavement

As you click through or look at each page presented, please consider the following points, as these are the things we would like your help to know. For instance:

  • How easy did you find it to understand what to do and how to do it on each page?
  • How could we make each page easier to understand and/or use?
  • How easy did you find it to find your way round (navigate) each page?
  • How clear/understandable did you find the language and phrases used?
  • How clear/understandable did you find any pictures or icons used?

You will also have an opportunity to write any comment you like – any comments that help us understand how you got on will be helpful to us.

Please note, clicking this link will open a new webpage to enable you to test and then return to the questionnaire:

Thank you in advance if you decide to participate in this testing. We appreciate your feedback and will consider it as we develop our website.
